Weight training is a crucial component for runners and track and field athletes, aiding in the development of strength, improving running economy, and reducing the risk of injury. Contrary to misconceptions, weightlifting does not slow athletes down or make them bulky; instead, it enhances speed, explosiveness, and jump height. Additionally, it helps build lean muscle, boosts metabolism, and promotes fat loss. Beyond physical benefits, strength training enhances mental preparation and confidence for races and competitions. It also improves bone density, which is vital for managing the high impact of sprinting.

NUTRITION
Diet and nutrition are vital for track athletes as they provide the necessary fuel for optimal performance, faster recovery, and reduced risk of injury and disease. High-quality nutrition, including the right balance of macronutrients (proteins, carbohydrates, fats) and micronutrients (vitamins, minerals), along with adequate hydration, is essential for energy, growth, and athletic activity. Proper nutrition helps decrease fatigue, prevent injury, and support quicker recovery. Maintaining a balance between energy intake and expenditure is crucial to avoid deficits or excesses, which can lead to health issues such as fatigue, injury, or illness.
The Indy Racing Tigers aim to develop elite athletes while also emphasizing the importance of strong academic performance for advancement in both school and life. Colleges seek not only athletic talent but also strong academic transcripts when recruiting scholarship-worthy athletes. Most colleges and junior colleges require a minimum 2.0 GPA for athletic eligibility. The NCAA has specific academic requirements for Division I and II athletes, including minimum core course credits, GPA, and standardized test scores. The Indy Racing Tigers expect their athletes to commit equally to academics and athletics, providing support like tutoring, study groups, and personalized learning approaches to help athletes excel academically.
TUTORING
FINANCE
The Indy Racing Tigers are launching a financial literacy program to educate young adults on personal finance and smart money management. The program will feature sessions led by business owners, bankers, and other professionals. Financial literacy involves understanding budgeting, saving, debt management, credit, and investment for a secure financial future. Key steps to becoming financially literate include creating a budget, tracking expenses, saving, managing debt, checking credit, and investing. The program emphasizes five principles: earning, spending, saving, borrowing, and protecting money. Young adults should focus on managing their earnings, spending wisely, saving, and investing. Additionally, athletes can earn through Name, Image, Likeness (NIL) deals, and all income from these activities is taxable.
